CIFAS marker wrongly added to credit file **Hello all!** TLDR Version: Revolut incorrectly applied a CIFAS marker over 2 and a half years ago, it fucked me up substantially, as well as my credit file & a mortgage application. I recently found out about it & submitted an appeal to have it overturned, it was instantly successful and now I want to know what my next steps are because of this blatant & damaging mistake by Revolut... **Short backstory:** I recently applied to open a new bank account and was instantly declined. I called the bank's application helpline to find out why, and they told me there was a CIFAS marker against my name. They advised me to either contact the bank that had placed the marker and request a Subject Access Request (SAR), or contact CIFAS directly for a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR). I had no idea who had placed the marker, so I requested a DSAR from CIFAS. About 10 days later, the report arrived and showed that Revolut had placed a **\"Misuse of Facility\"** marker against me. I contacted Revolut to understand why, and they replied asking for information about a ยฃ660 transaction from March 2024. I immediately knew what transaction they were referring to. It was a private sale of a pair of trainers. As far as I was concerned, the sale had gone perfectly. I had Royal Mail tracking confirming delivery, and the buyer even confirmed they had received the trainers. After that, I never heard from them again. It turns out the buyer had apparently disputed the payment, either by claiming they never made the transaction or by alleging that I never sent the trainers or never owned them in the first place. Thankfully, appealing the decision was straightforward. I was able to provide all the evidence proving the transaction was genuine, and within five days of my initial email, Revolut removed the CIFAS marker. I then contacted the bank that had originally declined my application, they reviewed the decision, overturned it, and I finally opened the account. **The reason I'm posting is because I'm wondering what I should do next regarding Revolut.** Looking back at what happened in March 2024, that CIFAS marker caused serious damage to my finances. My Revolut, RBS, Monzo and Starling accounts were all frozen and eventually closed, leaving me with no access to my money. RBS held my funds for around six weeks. During that time, I also missed an incoming wages payment because all of my accounts had been locked. With no other option, I had to open an account with Monese just so I could receive my wages and access banking services. Since then, I've paid nearly **ยฃ800 in fees** simply to spend, send and receive my own money. Because my accounts were frozen, I missed two months' worth of direct debits. That resulted in missed payments on my car finance, phone contract, loans and credit cards, all of which were recorded on my credit file. I had to borrow money from my partner just to cover essentials like food and fuel. I was also repeatedly rejected by other banks while desperately trying to open an account so I could receive my wages and have the money from my closed accounts transferred somewhere. To make matters worse, a few months later my mortgage application was declined. The most frustrating part is that I had absolutely no idea why any of this was happening. At no point did Revolut contact me to ask about the transaction before placing the marker. They simply froze and closed my account. The same thing happened with the other banks. Now that the CIFAS marker has been removed because it was clearly incorrect, I'm left wondering what my next steps should be. Has anyone successfully claimed compensation from Revolut in a situation like this? Given everything that happened โ€” frozen accounts, loss of access to my money, bank rejections, damage to my credit file, hundreds of pounds in fees and the knock-on effect on my mortgage application โ€” do I have grounds to pursue them, and if so, what would be the best way to go about it?

The poster says a CIFAS marker placed by Revolut led to frozen and closed accounts at several banks, including Revolut, and loss of access to money. They say Revolut later removed the marker after receiving evidence, and they now seek compensation for the financial damage.
