How the wall works
What makes it onto the wall
We collect public firsthand reports and review contributions submitted here about account freezes, closures and held funds at Revolut, Mercury, Wise, Stripe and PayPal. A mention of a company is not enough: the source must describe an identifiable account problem.
Each call out preserves the original source, public attribution and known updates. Automated checks can publish clear, source-quoted reports; ambiguous reports, sensitive information and possible duplicate incidents are held for human review. Publication does not independently establish that a provider acted unlawfully or that every allegation is true.
One incident, one call out
Known follow-up posts and cross-posts about the same incident belong to the original call out. We retain the source history while avoiding additional complaint counts for the same incident. If a duplicate or error is discovered later, we correct the public record.
What the money total means
The total is cumulative money reported held in the published records, including amounts later released. It is not the amount currently outstanding. We count an amount only when its supporting quote, currency and relationship to the incident are established. Known non-USD amounts use documented exchange rates. Revenue, percentages, fees and unrelated losses do not become held balances.
Responses and resolutions
Providers can submit a response through the company workspace. We check a representative’s authority for that provider before labeling a reply as a company response. Identity verification establishes affiliation, not the truth of the reply. Full and partial resolutions are labeled only when supported by recorded evidence; silence does not establish an outcome.
What these numbers cannot tell you
This is a selected archive, not a complete count of complaints or a representative customer survey. Collection has date, language, platform and budget limits. Counts cannot establish complaint rates, overall customer satisfaction or which provider is safest. Monthly reports group currently visible call outs by the month of their first reported source; later corrections and outcomes can change those reports.
Corrections and editorial control
The Fintech Wall of Shame editorial team maintains the archive and reviews submitted evidence, responses and corrections. Advertising does not buy removal, a favorable outcome label or control over editorial decisions.
